§ 426. House of Representatives Building- Vice Speaker Jesus P. Mafnas Memorial Building

TITLE 1: GENERAL PROVISIONS § 426. House of Representatives Building: Vice Speaker Jesus P. Mafnas Memorial Building. (a) The House of Representatives Building shall be named “Vice Speaker Jesus P. Mafnas Memorial Building” in honor and memory of the first member of the House of Representatives to die in office, its vice speaker, the late prominent political leader the honorable Jesus Pangelinan Mafnas. (b) His name shall be permanently and prominently inscribed or mounted on a bronze plaque which shall be prominently and permanently attached to the building. Source: PL 9-62, § 2, modified. Commission Comment: PL 9-62 took effect October 11, 1996. According to PL 9-62, § 1: Section 1. Findings. The House of Representatives finds that while several former members of the House of Representatives have been called to their eternal rest, the late honorable Vice Speaker Jesus Pangelinan Mafnas, who passed away on May 21, 1995, was the first to die while serving as member of the Northern Mariana Islands Commonwealth Legislature. The late Vice Speaker Jesus Pangelinan Mafnas deserves this recognition and honor.
