§ 7111. Purpose
TITLE 9: VEHICLE CODE DIVISION 7: SERIOUS TRAFFIC OFFENSES AND PENALTIES § 7111. Fleeing or Attempting to Elude a Police Officer. (a) Any operator of a motor vehicle who willfully fails or refuses to bring his vehicle to a stop, or who otherwise flees or attempts to elude a pursuing police vehicle, when given visual or audible signals to bring the vehicle to a stop, is guilty of a misdemeanor. The signal given by the police officer may be by hand, voice, emergency light or siren. The officer’s vehicle shall be appropriately marked showing it to be an official police vehicle. (b) Every person convicted of fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer shall be punished by imprisonment for not less than 30 days nor more than six months or by a fine of not less than 500, or by both such fine and imprisonment.
